South of England Intercounties XC championships

Date: 06th Dec 2003
Type: XC
Comments: The first of the regional championships of the XC season saw two HRRs in action as part of Oxfordshire’s senior women's team against the best XC runners of the region in the Southern Intercounties match at Stowe on Saturday. On 6.5km course on the rolling landscape of Stowe School, Allison Hirst and Tracey Galbraith led the county women’s team home. Allison worked hard throughout the race to finish a highly creditable 6th place overall, continuing her excellent performances in the Chiltern league XC league where she leads the senior women’s ranks. Despite a long lay-off from racing with an injured foot, Galbraith ran a good race to come home in 2nd place for Oxfordshire. With solid performances by Heath, Gomm, Briscoe, Boden and Buzzard, the Oxon team finished 5th team overall. For those of you who remember Anna Loveless who left Oxford this summer, she also ran for her home county of Dorset and came in a very creditable 29th overall and was 6th in the U23 competition. She says hello to all her friends at HRR and commented on the lack of decent South Park XC sessions back home.
