Comments: A picturesque (and very flat) 26.2 miles around Kew Gardens, Hampton Court Palace and along the Thames Path. Some road, some gravel paths. It was a popular and mostly well organised event, with 5k and 10k options the day before and a HM option alongside the full marathon. Some of the course was closed to spectators, making it tricky for my family to find spots to cheer me on. I picked up a cold 2 days beforehand and honestly thought about dropping out after 1 mile of breathless, stomach aching plodding, but I found a rhythm after a few miles. I did have to back off a bit after mile 18, and running the last few miles along single-file pavements with the back of the half marathon pack killed the pace too, but I’m really pleased nonetheless. Thanks to everyone who has helped me train for it. I’ll be back for more.
