Despite what the name might lead you to believe, this is not really a 'city marathon' - although it starts in the centre of Edinburgh, most of the course runs along the shores of the Firth of Forth (so is fairly flat but with accompanying headwinds !). I thought it was quite pleasant, in fact I liked it so much I took 20 minutes to do the last 2 and a bit miles. Would recommend this race to anyone who doesn't mind a few 'quiet' miles in the middle of the course, as you'll only see big crowds of supporters near the start and finish. Oh, and because the main sponsor is a major UK veg grower, this was the first race I've ever done where the goody bag included some potatoes. Better than a boring old banana any day, eh ? |
