When did you join HRR and what prompted you to join?

I joined the beginner's group in 2016, having been inspired by watching the Oxford Half Marathon which went past my house. On my first run, I asked Steve Lewis, then one of the coaches at the club, what speed to run, and he said at a speed I could comfortably talk. I have been running and talking with the club ever since.

What inspired you to become a coach/leader?

I had led many Thursday night run’s and benefitted from the support of the coaches at Tuesday night interval sessions, so was happy to undertake the LiRF course when asked by Evelyn, who was looking to increase the number of coaches. Always happy to pass on my running experiences to help others develop or learn from my mistakes.

What group coaching/leading do you do at HRR?

I currently lead Tuesday night interval sessions as part of the coaching team, as well as leading the Monday night sensibly paced runs and Thursday club runs as required.

What is your favourite training session?

I don’t think I have a favourite training session. They are all hard, but I enjoy seeing the improvement in my performance and that of the other runners participating in the sessions. Working alongside others makes the training so much easier.

What is your favourite race or running route?

My favourite race was the Snowdonia Marathon, which I ran with Gemma. We decided time did not matter, so we were able to enjoy the run and the wonderful scenery, (although maybe not the final climb 22 miles into the race when my legs were beginning to feel tired).
